"All art is concerned with coming into being"
-Aristotle

We live in a world that gives us easy access to templates. There is nothing personal nor unique about filling out a form, yet most of us do this frequently to "customize" the methods in which we choose to express our businesses and ourselves. Everything from social based websites to business signs and cards can be altered with our favorite font or color, but the first rule we must remember with design is that it must answer this question: why?

Design is the process of defining the message you wish to project, and then finding the method in which it is best communicated. In short, the design must have a purpose. A standard form or style will fail to provide quality or meaningful results, and will often lack the nuances necessary to create something as lasting as an identity and brand.

Development also takes time. Art does not spring, fully formed, from an artist's mind. Design is the art of communication. The development process is an amalgam of inspiration, research, refinement and critique before the design can be said to be truly responsive to its purpose.

Below are some images from our own process.

As you can see with our logo, we started with the form of a circle. A circle can represent continuation, the world, a whole, harmony, and the idea of something being complete. While these are all excellent ways to demonstrate what a design studio can do, we also wanted to express the idea that we aren't confined, contained, and that we have no borders. Epigraph is about going beyond. The result is something complete, yet with a sense of anticipation for what can come next.
